Why I Started SereniTide:

My Mental Health Healing Journey

Five years ago, my life looked very different.

After a traumatic event, I began suffering from panic attacks so severe that I could no longer function. My heart would race out of control, my mind would spiral, and sleep felt impossible.

Eventually, I reached a breaking point and checked myself into a mental health facility. That moment was the hardest decision of my life, but it was also the beginning of healing.

If you’ve ever wondered why I started SereniTide, the answer lies in those dark nights and in the slow, steady journey that followed.

The Long Road To Healing

Healing wasn’t instant. It wasn’t linear. Some days I felt hopeful, others I felt like I was back at the beginning. But over time, small steps began to add up.

Here are the tools and practices that made the biggest difference in my recovery:

  • Therapy and support: Learning to process my trauma instead of burying it.
  • Journaling: Writing became a way to release thoughts and track progress.
  • Better sleep habits: Creating nighttime rituals, reducing screens, and using natural supplements to support rest.
  • Supplements for anxiety and sleep: Magnesium, adaptogens, and nutrients that help regulate stress and calm the nervous system.
  • Daily rituals: Breathwork, grounding practices, and gratitude exercises to reconnect with myself.

Each of these became anchors in my life. Over the course of five years, I moved from survival mode into a life that felt calmer, healthier, and more purposeful.

From Personal Healing to a Shared Mission

SereniTide was born out of that journey.

I realized that the tools and resources I had discovered weren’t extraordinary, they were accessible, evidence-based, and natural. The problem was that I hadn’t known where to start or who to turn to. I felt alone.

That’s when I decided I wanted to change things. SereniTide is my way of sharing the tools and practices that supported my healing, so no one has to feel as alone as I once did.

The name itself reflects this mission. Just like the tides of the ocean, our mental health moves in cycles. Some days are calm, others are stormy, but with the right support, we can learn to flow instead of fight.

More Than Supplements

SereniTide creates carefully formulated blends, backed by science, to support stress relief, sleep, and overall resilience. But SereniTide is not just about supplements.

It’s about:

  • Awareness: Breaking the silence around mental health.
  • Education: Sharing accessible tools, tips, and resources.
  • Community: Creating safe spaces where stories of resilience can be shared.
  • Empowerment: Reminding people that healing is always possible.

Why I’m Sharing This Now

October is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this cause is close to my heart. Mental health doesn’t stay at home when we start our workday  it comes with us into boardrooms, emails, and conversations. Burnout, anxiety, and sleepless nights affect not just individuals, but families, workplaces, and communities.

That’s why I’m opening up about my story this month. If you’re struggling, I want you to know you are not alone. And if you’re in a stronger season, I invite you to use this month to check in with someone who may be silently fighting their own battle.

Flowing Forward Together

If you’ve ever asked yourself why I started SereniTide, the answer is simple: to share hope.

This month, I’ll be sharing:

  • Weekly mental health tips you can use right away
  • Stories of resilience from people who’ve walked through hardship
  • Resources that support stress and sleep
  • A SereniTide Journal giveaway to encourage reflection and grounding

My story is just one among many. But together, by speaking openly and supporting one another, we can change the conversation around mental health in South Africa and beyond.

Final Thoughts

I never dreamed that life could feel this calm, balanced, and fulfilling. But it can.

SereniTide was created to support others on their healing journey — through natural supplements for anxiety and sleep, practical tools, and a community that cares.

Let’s flow through this month with compassion, courage, and the reminder that none of us are alone. 🌊💙
